Anthropic launches Claude Duet agent Oct. 21, waitlist only for US Pro and Max users
Anthropic's new agent promises a daily brief across your business apps and hands-off admin work, but it is an early preview with a waitlist.
- What happened
On Oct. 21, 2026, Anthropic announced Claude Duet, an AI agent for professionals and small business owners built on Claude Opus 5.5, launching as a research preview on iOS, Android and Claude on the web. It sends a morning brief from connected apps, messages you when something needs attention, takes tasks from scheduling meetings to building forecasts and web apps, asks for approval before steps like sending a payment or deleting something, and is waitlist-only for US Pro and Max subscribers.
- What it means for a 10-to-50-person business
This is the first agent from a major AI vendor pitched straight at small business owners, not developers. Take the owner of a 22-person HVAC shop who spends about 45 minutes each morning going through email, the calendar and overdue invoices. If Duet's brief cut that to 15 minutes, that would save about 30 minutes a day, roughly 10 hours a month, or about $750 at $75 an hour of owner time. That saving is unproven. Anthropic says the agent 'still might misread a thread or miscalibrate what's urgent,' and the coverage does not list which apps connect, so do not assume QuickBooks, ServiceTitan or your dispatch board work. Owners who already pay for Claude Pro or Max and live in email and calendars should watch this. Owners outside the US, or whose day runs through field-service software Duet may not reach, can ignore it for now.
- What to do
- Wait
If you already pay for Claude Pro or Max, join the waitlist, but keep payment and accounting accounts disconnected until it leaves research preview and Anthropic publishes the supported app list.
- What it costs
What it costs - Claude Pro, 1 owner seat (assume ≈ $20/mo; confirm current price)
- ≈ $240/yr
- Setup and connecting apps
- 2 hrs (≈ $150 at $75/hr)
- Checking its brief against your own inbox during preview
- 15 min/day ≈ 5 hrs/mo (≈ $375 at $75/hr)
- Possible saving if morning triage drops from 45 to 15 min
- ≈ 10 hrs/mo (unproven)
- Doing nothing
- $0; you keep triaging by hand and revisit when the preview ends

Questions owners ask
- Does Claude Duet work with QuickBooks or my field-service software?
The announcement coverage does not list supported apps. It says Duet uses the connected apps you already have in Claude and has a virtual machine with a browser. Check the product page before assuming any specific tool works.
- Can it send payments without my approval?
Anthropic says Duet messages you for approval before any big step, such as sending a payment or deleting something.
- Who can use it now?
Only US subscribers on Claude Pro or Max, and only after getting off the waitlist.
Three to five of these, every weekday morning.
