n8n adds Google's Gemini 4 Argon to its AI Agents and Cloud credits on Oct. 13
If you already run AI steps in n8n, a new Google model is one dropdown away, but n8n has not said what it costs in Gateway credits.
- What happened
On Oct. 13, 2026, n8n said Google's new Gemini 4 Argon model is available from launch in its AI Agent and Google Gemini nodes, and that n8n Cloud customers can pay for it with Gateway credits instead of opening a separate Google account. n8n also said its built-in MCP server lets outside AI tools build workflows inside n8n, and that its chat Assistant has no native Gemini option yet, so self-hosted users must reach Gemini through OpenRouter or Google's OpenAI-compatible endpoint.
- What it means for a 10-to-50-person business
This only matters if you already pay for n8n and have an AI step in a workflow. Take a 20-person HVAC shop on n8n Cloud with an agent that reads the service inbox, pulls the customer record and flags no-heat calls in Slack. Assume 600 emails a month. Switching that agent to Gemini 4 Argon is a model change in the node, with billing through credits the shop already buys. The catch is that n8n's post gives no credit rate for this model. The benchmarks it shows are Google's own numbers, not tests on dispatch email. A wrong priority call on a no-heat ticket in January costs more than any model savings. The sensible move is to wait until the per-credit price is published and others have run it on real workloads. Zapier and Make users can ignore this. So can anyone without an AI step in n8n, which is most 10-to-50-person shops.
- What to do
- Wait
Leave working n8n AI workflows on their current model this month and check back in January, once n8n publishes Gateway credit pricing for Gemini 4 Argon.
- What it costs
What it costs - Gemini 4 Argon on n8n Cloud
- billed in Gateway credits; rate not stated in n8n's post
- Side-by-side test, 50 past emails on a copied workflow
- 1–2 hrs (≈ $50–$100 at $50/hr)
- Self-hosted Assistant setup via OpenRouter or Google endpoint
- ~1 hr plus your own API usage
- Doing nothing
- $0; your current model keeps working

Questions owners ask
- Do I need a Google account to use Gemini 4 Argon in n8n?
Not on n8n Cloud. n8n says you can use it through Gateway credits with no separate provider account or extra billing. Self-hosted users need their own key, through Google or OpenRouter.
- Will the n8n Assistant build workflows on Gemini 4 Argon?
On self-hosted n8n, only through OpenRouter or Google's OpenAI-compatible endpoint, because there is no native Gemini option yet. On Cloud, the Assistant runs on n8n Assistant credits, and the workflows it builds can call Gemini 4 Argon.
Three to five of these, every weekday morning.
