Google rolls out Gemini app skills from Oct. 13; Workspace skills delayed
Skills in the Gemini app reach all Workspace plans by mid-November. The Workspace version has no date. Sharing and Drive come later.
- What happened
Google said on Oct. 13, 2026 that skills in the Gemini app are rolling out gradually, with completion expected by mid-November. It also said skills in Workspace, which were due to finish for Rapid Release domains by Oct. 12 and start for Scheduled Release on Oct. 19, are delayed until further notice.
- What it means for a 10-to-50-person business
Skills are saved, repeatable tasks you teach Gemini once. Sharing them with coworkers and a Google Drive connection are promised "in the coming weeks" with no date, so for now each person builds their own. Take a 14-person accounting firm on Workspace Business Standard. If three staff each spend 10 minutes a day on near-identical client document-request emails, a shared skill could save about 10 hours a month, roughly $500 at $50 an hour. That saving needs sharing, which is not out yet. Skills in Workspace proper have no date at all. There are no admin controls for skills in the Gemini app, so your admin cannot switch them off. If you have staff data rules, tell them what not to paste in. If you do not use Gemini, ignore this.

Questions owners ask
- Do skills cost extra?
The excerpt Google published does not mention pricing. Check what your current Workspace plan includes for Gemini before assuming it is free or paid.
- When will my team see skills in Workspace apps?
It depends on your release track. Google previously gave Oct. 12 for Rapid Release and Oct. 19 for Scheduled Release, then posted an update to that schedule. The excerpt cuts off before the new dates, so check the Workspace Updates blog.
- Can my staff share skills with each other yet?
No. Google says sharing of Gemini app skills will arrive in the coming weeks, alongside a Google Drive integration.
Three to five of these, every weekday morning.
