Google Voice Carrier Link reaches US and Canada Oct. 8, with four carrier partners

Google Workspace shops can now run Google Voice on a local carrier's numbers and calling plan, which opens a second quote for your phone bill.

What happened

On Oct. 8, 2026, Google made Carrier Link for Google Voice available in 14 more countries, including the US, Canada and much of Europe, so Workspace customers can pair Google Voice with numbers and calling plans bought from a certified local carrier instead of Google's own calling plan. It works with Voice Starter, Standard and Premier subscriptions, is set up through partners Southlight Services, Gamma Communications, Tata Communications and Telefonica Global Solutions, and rolls out gradually over up to 15 days.

What it means for a 10-to-50-person business

Until now, a US business on Google Voice bought its calling plan from Google. Now a carrier partner can supply the numbers and calling plan and bill you directly. Google Voice stays as the app, desk phone, auto-attendant and ring group layer. Google publishes no carrier prices, so the only reason to act is if a partner quotes less than you pay now, or bundles something you need. Example: an 18-person plumbing company on Google Workspace runs 6 office lines on Voice Standard (assume $20/user/mo, about $1,440/yr) plus a main line with an auto-attendant. If its phone contract renews in the next 90 days, one partner quote takes about an hour and shows whether carrier billing beats Google's plan. Businesses that call or hold numbers in Canada or Europe have the most to gain. A shop on a different phone system, or happy with Google's plan, can ignore this.

What to do
Ask your vendor

If you use Google Voice and your phone costs come up for review before year-end, ask one Carrier Link partner for a written per-line quote, including SIP Link licenses, and compare it with your current Google Voice bill.

Questions owners ask

Do I still need a Google Voice subscription with Carrier Link?

Yes. Google says Carrier Link is available to Workspace customers with Google Voice Starter, Standard or Premier. The carrier supplies the numbers and calling plan and handles payment for those.

How do I set it up?

Your Workspace admin contacts one of the four partners. The partner provisions the SIP Link licenses and phone numbers, and the admin assigns them to users, desk phones, auto-attendants and ring groups. End users do nothing.

When will it show up in my admin console?

Google is rolling it out gradually from Oct. 8, 2026, taking up to 15 days to become visible for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains.

Three to five of these, every weekday morning.
